If you own iPhone 4S or a later version of it or iPad of 3rd generation or later, you can use the cellular data for making a FaceTime call. But if you don’t own that, don’ worry, you can still use FaceTime. All you need is an active Wi-Fi connection.
Before using FaceTime, you will need to register yourself. If you own an iPhone, FaceTime will automatically register your phone number. If you own an iPad or iPod, you will need to register yourself. You can do it by clicking on Settings and then choose FaceTime, Now, use your Apple ID to sign in the FaceTime account. After registering yourself in FaceTime, you are ready to make a call on it.

You should either have the phone number or the email address of the person whom you want to contact. With that piece of information, you can easily make a FaceTime call by following the steps given below.
Step 1: Open the FaceTime app and enter either the phone number or the email address of the person whom you want to contact.
Step 2: Tap on FaceTime video icon to do a video chatting and on FaceTime audio icon for a simple voice call.

For example, if the email address or the phone number of the person whom you want to contact is already saved in your contact list, you just need to enter their name and click on the video or audio icon that appears.
